Gospel legend & pastor John P. Kee is set to be honored by BMI as a Trailblazer of Gospel Music Honoree.
As reported by the Gospel Music Association, Kee will be recognized for his 40+ years in the industry at the BMI Trailblazers of Gospel Music Awards at Flourish Atlanta on Thursday, April 3.
Catherine Brewton, BMI Vice President of Creative in Atlanta, had this to say about Kee’s award and legacy.
John P. Kee is a true visionary in the genre, and his music continues to have an impact in Gospel music for over forty years and counting. It’s an honor to recognize his dedication and the unwavering commitment he’s made through his artistry and evangelism.
We’re extremely excited to come together and celebrate his legacy and incredible accomplishments and proudly honor all of our award-winning songwriters and publishers for a special afternoon of great music and fellowship.
Known as the “Prince of Gospel Music,” Kee is the winner of 37 GMWA Excellence Awards, 27 Stellar Awards, and a Trailblazer Award from former President Bill Clinton, among other honors.
Throughout his illustrious career, he has written music for The Hawkins Family, Daryl Coley, Dorinda Clark Cole, Bishop Rance Allen, and many more. He has also been the full-time pastor of the New Life Fellowship Center in Charlotte, NC since its inception in 1995.
During the April ceremony, BMI will also honor the songwriters, producers and publishers of the past year’s 25 most-performed Gospel songs in the states. Other awards will include the BMI Gospel Song, Songwriter, and Publisher of The Year.
