Vice President Kamala Harris addressed the nation, moments ago, from “The Yard” at Howard University. The VP received a roaring applause as she walked to the podium waving to the crowd. Despite nationwide somberness, Harris showed she is the epitome of poise and grace delivering a concession speech filled with joy and hope. She was beaming with energy as she greeted supporters, “Good afternoon.”
Harris appeared filled with gratitude and indeed she was. “My heart is full today,” she said. “While I concede this election, I do not concede the fight that fueled this campaign.”
Supporters, in the crowd, could be seen shedding tears as Harris delivered her highly anticipated remarks. She agreed to a peaceful transition of power — a subtle shot at President-Elect Trump, who refused to accept the 2020 election results.
“A fundamental principle of American democracy is that when we lose an election, we accept the results,” Harris said. “That principle, as much as any other, distinguishes democracy from monarchy or tyranny, and anyone who seeks to public trust must honor it.”
VP Harris continued to encourage her supporters to keep fighting. “Sometimes the fight takes a while but that doesn’t mean we won’t win,” she detailed. “This is not a time to throw up our hands. This is a time to roll up our sleeves.”
Harris’ loss to Donald Trump shocked the nation and while we deal with it in real time, celebrities have taken to social media to thank Kamala for her service.
According to NewsOne, “Harris’ speech also left the door open for a future run at the White House by using language that encouraged people to look beyond the “dark time” she said some may feel like the U.S. is about to enter under another Trump presidency.”
