Issa Rae is in her entrepreneurial bag, and the proof is in her latest business venture, Somerville, a restaurant she opened in South Central, LA.
Rae announced the opening of Somerville in an Instagram post, where she showed off the swanky establishment during its opening weekend. Tracee Ellis Ross, Yvonne Orji, and Lil Rel were some of the noteworthy people in attendance.
“Always wanted a neighborhood lounge to complement the special community that is View Park-Windsor Hills. The genius GVO Gentlemen said, how about a restaurant? @somerville.slauson — an ode to the classic, artistic past of Black South Central L.A? And sure, the ambience will be fantastic, but the food and cocktails will keep you coming back… I said: ,” she captioned the post.
Rae also shared a reel to her account that highlighted the intimacy of the opening weekend.
If starting a business was an Olympic sport, the Insecure actress would receive a gold medal. Currently, Rae juggles multiple businesses, ensuring various streams of income that contribute to her lucrative empire. She is the owner of Hoorae Media, a media and entertainment company; Ensemble, a creator marketing company; Sienna Naturals, a vegan haircare brand; ColorCreative, a management company that supports women and minority writers; Hilltop Kitchen + Coffee, a coffee store that now has four locations in LA; and Viarae, an award-winning Prosecco brand she launched in 2023.
Rae’s impressive business portfolio speaks to her Capricorn nature. And by the looks of it, the entrepreneur has no plans on stopping. In January, a quirky comedy film produced by Hoorae Media starring SZA and KeKe Palmer will hit theaters, and it’s expected to be a hit.
