In Sunday’s 16-10 over the Miami Dolphins, Indianapolis Colts running back Tyler Goodson registered his first career NFL touchdown.

It’s been a long journey for Tyler Goodson to get to the NFL.

Goodson grew up in Suwanee, Georgia, and attended North Gwinnet High School. He scored 45 touchdowns and ran for over 2,400 as the full-time running back his junior and senior year. Goodson was tabbed as the Georgia Player of the Year as a senior.

He didn’t know it at the time, but the team’s leading receiving was a sophomore. He caught 63 passes for 1,019 yards and nine touchdowns. That wide receiver went on to finish his high school career with over 3,000 receiving yards and 32 receiving touchdowns. Both Goodson and this unnamed receiver went on to play for a power five program. They would never play with each other, or against each other in college.

However, they would reunite in 2023 in Indianapolis. That other player is Josh Downs.

“Me and Josh have always been close. My family and his family were close. We would always be together and having family situations together, so we were always around each other growing up. We’ve always been able to build each other up and for me, that’s really one of the things that made me comfortable coming here.” Goodson stated on Query & Company Monday afternoon.

After being able to celebrate a lot of firsts in high school together, the two are now doing that on the biggest stages.

However, it hasn’t always been sunshine and rainbows for Goodson so far in his career. The 23 year-old was heavily criticized last season for his drop that prevented the Colts from gaining a first down in their Week 18 loss to the Houston Texans.

“After that game, in the locker room, JT actually came up to me and told me it’s over with. He was like, ‘When I first came into the league, a guy told me that you got to leave everything that happens here in the locker room,’ and I took that advice. That’s what I did. I stayed close to the people that’s closest to me. I talked with them and they uplifted me. From there, it was just all about me just doing everything I can to not put myself in a position for that to happen again.” Goodson revealed.

Goodson has really flashed some burst and perhaps could become the change of pace back the Colts need. Jonathan Taylor’s return is nearing, but having someone that can provide a spark like Goodson can help take some of the load off of Taylor.
