Another young Black celebrity couple may have called it quits.
Halle Bailey and DDG reportedly announced their breakup via DDG’s Instagram Stories. The move has sparked immediate buzz across social media. While Halle has not made an official public statement, the news of their breakup has taken the internet by storm.
This announcement comes less than a year after the couple welcomed their baby boy, Halo. It also follows months of a very public relationship filled with scrutiny, uncertainty, and what many may describe simply as drama.
DDG about his breakup with Halle Bailey: ‘The decision was not easy.’

In a statement shared on his Instagram Stories on October 3, DDG posted: “Dear friends and supporters, After much reflection and heartfelt conversations, Halle and I have decided to go our separate ways. The decision was not easy, but we believe it’s the best path forward for both of us. I cherish the time we’ve spent together and the love we shared.”
The young couple were first spotted together in January 2022. They welcomed their son in late 2023. Throughout their relationship, Halle and DDG frequently appeared together at events, on red carpets, and social media.
In an interview with The Shade Room’s Keep It 100, DDG mentioned how much he enjoyed supporting Halle and had no problem letting the Little Mermaid star take the spotlight. In the same interview, he even hinted at possibly proposing to Halle in the future.
“I love for her to do her own thing and have her own shine. I don’t ever want to be that type of person. Never jealous – ever,” DDG said at the time regarding supporting Halle.

However, the couple’s love story wasn’t always smooth sailing. From the time they got together, fans were full of questions. Some wondered whether DDG was “worthy” of Halle, given her rising stardom. At the time of their initial union, Halle had already gained widespread recognition from her work with her sister Chloe in the duo Chloe x Halle, as well as her collaboration with Beyoncé. This led some to question their compatibility.

DDG’s social media post announcing the breakup has led to mixed reactions. Twitter/X has lit up with posts, emojis, shares, and commentary. Many fans are still in disbelief, saying they won’t believe the breakup is official until Halle herself addresses it.
Others are quick to point out that DDG has been known to stir up attention on social media with pranks or jokes, leaving room for skepticism. Some fans, like Nat, joked about the inevitable flood of relationship discourse. Nat tweeted: “ddg and halle broke up so now we gotta deal with a week of #blackrelationship topics.”
Many fans, however, are standing firmly in Halle’s corner, expressing their love and support for the “Angel” singer. One fan, Ty, wrote: “Halle, you are our angel , our princess. No one will ever make us hate you.”
