Today (May 7th), as part of the media company’s 45th anniversary celebration, BET revealed its Mother’s Day special cover for IMMERSED, its digital cover series. The digital-first initiative recognizes culture architects, visionaries, and trailblazers who have shaped Black culture and continue to influence global entertainment, music, fashion, and social impact.
May’s issue of IMMERSED features Victoria Monét! The three-time Grammy Award-winning songwriter and artist was joined by her adorable daughter Hazel Monét. In an exclusive interview with Brande Victorian for IMMERSED, the 36-year-old songwriter opens up about her rise to fame, her forthcoming children’s book, and her most important job – motherhood.

During the interview, Monét made it a point to thank her tribe for all they’ve done to help her raise Hazel and all the encouragement and support they’ve provided. She also mentioned how much she loves that her daughter can be at work with her in a lot of instances. “I like days like this because she’s at work with me, so it’s like my heart, it’s together. Usually, it’s in two places. When I’m at work, it’s with her and then when I’m with her, I’m like, ‘ah, I’ve got this work to do.’” said Monét.
The relationship with Hazel was the inspiration behind Monét’s upcoming children book, Everywhere You Are, which is set to be released on June 24th. “The book is really about empowering women or caregivers to feel free to go and do their thing but also know that they gave the message to their children and their loved ones that even when I’m away from you, I still am here with you. It reminds me a lot of God,” Monét stated. ““It’s like the message with God is even though you can’t see me, I’m still with you, guiding you in your heart. I feel like that’s motherhood. It takes on a lot of what you feel with God.”
A new book isn’t all the Atlanta native is working on though. When discussing her current and future plans, Victoria shared, “I’m building an empire — music, movies, skincare, all of it. Beyoncè and RIhanna walked so I could run.”
