The 2025 Met Gala is around the corner, and this year’s event is set to be as bold, beautiful, and buzzworthy as ever. Whether you’re planning a viewing party or live-tweeting every red carpet look, here are five facts you absolutely need to know before the stars hit the Met steps. Hit the flip below to find out all the full details.

1. Mark Your Calendar: May 5 Is the Big Day.

Your favorite celebs and fashion connoisseurs will descend upon the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 5. While the guest list is elite and the tickets are famously pricey, there’s a bigger cause buried behind the glitz and glam of the annual event. The Met Gala raises serious funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. Last year, it brought in a casual $26 million, the New York Times reported. Fashion with a purpose? Count us in.

2. The Theme? Tailored, Timeless, and Totally Black Excellence.

This year’s theme is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”, a celebration of Black dandyism and identity, according to a 2024 report by Vogue. Inspired by Dr. Monica L. Miller’s groundbreaking book Slaves to Fashion, the exhibit explores how fashion has long been a form of resistance, identity, and art for the Black diaspora. Expect sharp suits, bold statements, and cultural storytelling through style. It’s curated by Miller herself alongside famous museum curator Andrew Bolton.

Miller told Vogue last year that she hopes the unique theme will “illustrate how Black people transformed from being enslaved and stylized as luxury items, acquired like any other signifier of wealth and status, to autonomous self-fashioning individuals who are global trendsetters.”

3. Meet The Hosts And The Star-Studded Committee.

Per The Cut, co-chairs this year include Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and, of course, the queen of the Met, Anna Wintour. LeBron James joins as honorary co-chair. But wait—it gets better. The guest committee (back for the first time since 2019) includes Simone Biles, Angel Reese, Ayo Edebiri, Doechii, Usher, Janelle Monáe, André 3000, Dapper Dan, Spike Lee, and so many more. Zendaya and Law Roach? Also confirmed. It’s giving icon overload.

4. Law Roach And Burberry Are Teaming Up At This Year’s Gala.

Fashion lovers, rejoice! Law Roach is stepping into a Creative Director role (just for the gala!) with Burberry. He’s teaming up with Daniel Lee to bring the house’s vision for the theme to life. With past clients like Zendaya, Venus Williams, and Lewis Hamilton, Roach’s fingerprints on the Met are guaranteed to be flawless.

According to WWD, the fashion architect will be curating Burberry’s table and “working closely as a partner and consultant” on the creative expression of this year’s theme.

We’re already bracing for a best-dressed list takeover.

5. Naomi Campbell May Be Skipping This Year’s Event—And Perhaps For Good.

Naomi Campbell, who dazzled in Burberry at last year’s gala, might be skipping this year’s event—and possibly the Met Gala altogether moving forward. In her latest YouTube episode of Being Naomi, she hinted at her absence while reminiscing about last year’s prep and red carpet moment.

If true, it’s the end of an era. Naomi has owned that carpet for decades, attending over 20 Met Gala events.

“This is my last Met. It is my last Met. I can’t… I’m too old,” the supermodel said in her vlog posted April 25. “It’s too much for me, the anxiety.”

In disbelief over her confession, one of her assistants jokingly replied, “Famous last words.”

In true Campbell fashion, the catwalk icon offered a little sass with her response.

“I don’t know what number this is, I think it could be either 20 or 21, can you imagine,” she said, adding that over the years, she has never followed The Met Gala theme.

Last year’s theme, “Garden of Time,” complimented the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, and focused on the delicate beauty, fragility, and fleeting nature of fashion inspired by the natural world.

“I don’t follow themes, I’m sorry. I just flow,” Campbell bluntly confessed.

So, there you have it! These are five reasons this year’s Met Gala is shaping up to be unforgettable. Whether you’re tuning in for the fashion, the culture, or the drama, one thing’s for sure, May 5 can’t come soon enough.
