Omarion is known for his musical talents, dance skills, unbothered exterior, and chiseled body. He is a doting father, former lead singer of B2K,  reality TV star, author, and more. Most recently, the sexy performer hit the stage on the Philadelphia stop of The Millennium Tour and critics had something to say about his thicker physique. Suddenly, he was on the other end of body-shaming tweets.

His thicker appearance and softer pectorals did not detract from his performance. The king of being unbothered hit his dance moves perfectly and sounded great. He was in lockstep with his background dancers. But people felt it necessary to comment on how he looked. Others stuck with the mind-numbingly obvious “Icebox” themed puns that lacked both compassion and creativity.

Here We Go Again

Body shaming in the entertainment industry is rampant. Celebrities are held to unrealistic beauty expectations. A slight flux in their weight is headline news, which adds to the pressure to appear perfect in front of cameras. And with cameras in every direction, it’s a nonstop job.

Rihanna opened up to Vogue about her battle with online body-shamers. “You’ve just got to laugh at yourself, honestly. I mean, I know when I’m having a fat day and when I’ve lost weight. I accept all of the bodies,” she told Vogue. “I’m not built like a Victoria’s Secret girl, and I still feel very beautiful and confident in my lingerie.”

Actress Lela Rochon had to take time out of her interview on the Sherri show to clap back at those who judged her for her body changing over the decades since she played an ingénue in 1995’s Waiting to Exhale. “So all y’all that be saying ‘She don’t look the same,’ don’t expect me to look the same. It’s been 30 years,” Rochon told the audience.

Host Sherri Shepherd interjected to say that Rochon looked “same-ish,” which is perfectly plausible after spending 30s years in Hollywood.

Lizzo is another celebrity whose weight would sometimes overshadow her talent. After being judged for her full body frame, she was judged for how she lost weight.

Body shaming is known to have immense effects on mental health, self-esteem, and body image. According to Frontiers in Psychology, “evidence suggests that BS and weight stigma have negative effects on psychological health both in the short and long term.”

Celebrities Are Allowed To Change

Celebrities’ bodies are allowed to change, especially as they get older. As a man in his early 40s, Omarion is just as delicious as he was at the height of his “O” days. He’s still booked and blessed with immense talent. We stan an unproblematic king.

The crooner hasn’t responded to the conversations around his body, instead, he puts his best effort and good energy into his performances. Catch him on the 2025 Millennium Tour, co-headlined by Bow Wow and Trey Songz.
