Supreme has become a billion-dollar company and has remained one of the hottest brands in streetwear for more than two decades.

So, needless to say, the brand is beloved. But there’s one person in particular, nicknamed YM Bape, who has had a longstanding beef with the legendary box logo.

Real name Anthony Lopez, he terrorized the streets of Lower Manhattan around 2016, confronting anyone on the street rocking the brand and screaming “F-ck Supreme” because he had an allegiance to Japanese-born streetwear brand Bape. Videos of him running up on Supreme wearers showed him knocking their hats off, cursing them out, and physically harassing them.

Now, nearly 10 years on, we know that terrorizing the streets continued, and this week, he was sentenced to 28 years to life in prison for his role in a murder-for-hire plot after he was found guilty of first-degree murder and conspiracy in the second degree.

According to the Manhattan District Attorney’s office, the 34-year-old is partially to blame for the fatal shooting of James Weeks, an innocent bystander, while attempting to seek revenge.

“Anthony Lopez went to great lengths to seek retribution and bloodshed, and his fixation ultimately led to the death of a completely innocent man,” said District Attorney Bragg. “I hope the significant state prison term that Lopez will serve gives Mr. Weeks’s family a sense of justice and peace. Combatting gun violence continues to be my top priority, and we are laser-focused on shootings involving retribution and retaliation.”

It began in 2019 when Lopez was shot three times near Pitt and Delancey Street. He had an idea of who the shooter was and was primed to retaliate. Even while recovering from his wounds, he posted a picture of himself along with 50 Cent’s lyrics that read, “Better watch how you talk, when you talk about me ‘Cause, I’ll come and take your life away.

Texts show that Lopez received a text from Malik Facey, offering to kill someone for him for a few thousand dollars, and he agreed. A month later, they —along with another associate, Christopher Vazquez— met up and saw Weeks walking towards his car, and Facey opened fire. Weeks was transported to a hospital but was pronounced dead.

After finding out that the wrong person was killed, Lopez still tried to exact revenge, telling an incarcerated Facey on a call recorded call, “This is YM Bape. I got a heavy cash app on someone in your crib right now. I’m not talking about no $100, no $200. Right now, I got four bands on the cash app, right now. I need it to happen, gangster,” and “Four band on the cash app – I send half up front, when it gets done, I send the other half, gangster.”

According to Complex, when he was sentenced on Thursday, his Supreme-hating antics were mentioned in court, and even after the lengthy sentence, he said, “Fuck Supreme” before he was whisked away.
