SheaMoisture is changing our bathtime routine by addressing dry skin from within the shower, thanks to the relaunch of the SheaMoisture Skin Cleansing Collection. If you’re like me, ashiness begins to surface the second temperatures dip below 70 degrees. With that in mind, I was intrigued to learn more about the revamped collection and what it can do for my skin.
Recognizing the need for moisture on melanated skin, the brand overhauled its formula to prioritize restoration and hydration. During a well-curated spa day hosted by SheaMoisture, I heard from the experts who explained more about the formula, which includes Fair Trade Shea Butter and plant-based moisturizers, and how it’s designed to pack in the moisture and provide long-lasting coverage for melanated skin.
“When we created this collection, it was important for us to put the needs of the melanin-rich community first. The SheaMoisture Body Wash Collection features 24-hour visible moisture, created with Shea Emulsion Technology and complete with Shea Moisture Nutrients inclusive of fair-trade shea butter and plant-based moisturizers. This addresses one of the primary concerns for the melanin-rich consumer, which is dryness, and creates the foundation for a well-rounded body routine that helps replenish and restore melanin-rich skin,” says Kierstyn Harris, Formulation Scientist on SheaMoisture R&D Team.
After the event, I decided to try the African Black Soap Calm & Clearing Body Wash. I heard a few people rave about the scent and lather, and I wanted to see what the hype was about. So, for the next week I spent my mornings and some evenings getting familiar with SheaMoisture’s new and improved body wash.
Initiating the moisturizing process from the shower sets the tone for the rest of your routine. I’m always skeptical about products that make strong claims, but the smooth, creamy lather of the African Black Soap wash felt buttery on my skin. As I rubbed it in with my washcloth, it left a silky finish that felt light and hydrated.
I continued to use the body wash over the next couple of days, and I moisturized my skin with the brand’s Coconut & Hibiscus Illuminating Body Lotion, which added another layer of hydration. I observed my skin 24 hours after my shower daily to see if it would turn dry. To my surprise, I experience no ashiness or dullness on my skin.
Pros of SheaMoisture’s Body Wash
- The African Black Soap Calm & Clearing Body Wash has a light scent that isn’t overwhelming like other body washes.
- The lather is probably my favorite thing about this product. It feels buttery and smooth, but it doesn’t leave a visible film on your skin. You exit the shower looking and feeling naturally moisturized.
- The 18 oz bottle goes a long way. You might want to use a lot of the body wash because the lather is refreshing, but you won’t need to. I can cover my entire body with just a dime size of the product.
- Because lotion is part of my routine, I haven’t tested the body wash without it. If you want a double dose of moisture, pair it with any of the brand’s body lotions or butters.
- You can’t beat the price! The body wash collection is sold on Amazon, Target, Walmart and other major retailers for just $11.99
I didn’t experience any cons with this product. Overall, the body wash is the perfect introduction to the fall-to-winter transition, when the skin naturally loses moisture because of the colder temperature. If you’re prone to dry skin, you’ll want to add the SheaMoisture Skin Cleansing Collection to your skincare routine.
