We don’t know much about the Kendrick Lamar collaboration with South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker for an upcoming movie but what we do know is that the release date has been rescheduled. Originally set for July 4, the movie is now coming out on March 20, 2026.
Though the title was hush-hush for a while, Complex reports that it’s called Whitney Springs. Written by comedian Vernon Chatman, it’s set in a living history museum as a man working as a slave reenactor finds out that his ancestors were owned by his white girlfriend’s family.
Whitney Springs was first announced in 2022, with Lamar’s longtime collaborator Dave Free producing. Chatman is a standup comedian who writes for South Park and voices characters on the long-running show.
“On behalf of Paramount Pictures and the wider ViacomCBS family, we look forward to ushering in the first theatrical collaboration from these creative visionaries, and galvanizing audiences worldwide around a powerful storytelling experience,” Paramount president/CEO Brian Robbins said at the time.
The delayed release was announced right before CinemaCon, when theater owners and studios get together to showcase the slate of upcoming films. Though no reason for the delay was announced, Lamar is going to be on the Grand National Tour this summer with SZA, opening up on April 19 at U.S. Bank Arena in Minneapolis and ending on Aug. 9 at the 3Arena in Stockholm, Sweden.
