Despite his cozy position at Fox Sports, Virginia native and former Eagles great Michael Vick will soon be joining the ranks of college coaches.
Following an interview, the former NFL quarterback was reportedly hired by Norfolk State, according to the Virginian-Pilot. An initial news conference is anticipated within a week after Vick and NSU reportedly agreed to contract terms on Tuesday, according to various sources.
He takes over for Dawson Odums, who was fired last month by the Spartans following a 15-30 record in four seasons. Vick, a native of Newport News and a four-time NFL Pro Bowler, has never coached before, so staff composition is going to be crucial. He is 44 years old.
According to insiders, Vick has already started contacting possible assistant coaches and support personnel. Fans may recognize some of the names on Vick’s roster.
The hiring follows the November 26 dismissal of former head coach Dawson Odums by Norfolk State. Over his four years as coach, Odums oversaw teams that went 15-31 and lost all three of their final seasons.
