The kids from Philly who took the world by storm and played a significant role in shaping the mood, style and sound of 90s R&B will have their story told in a feature film and documentary, both of which are in the works.
Variety shared the news on Thursday (Nov. 14), stating that the group has teamed up with production and financing companies Compelling Pictures and Primary Wave to develop the biopic, with Boyz II Men’s Nathan Morris, Shawn Stockman and Wanya Morris executive producing the film.
According to group member Nathan Morris, the partnership felt right from the very start.
“We’ve been waiting to find the right partners who understand our story and are willing to tell it all,” he said in a statement on behalf of the group. “Denis and Jeff at Compelling Pictures understood us day one.”
Covering three decades of music is no easy feat, particularly the work of a four time Grammy-winning group that has not only worked alongside some of the biggest names of music, but have experienced their fair share of ups and downs.
“Boyz II Men are one of the most influential bands of a generation. They are one of the few who transcend genre and format,” said Larry Metsel, one of the names attached to the film’s production. “Primary Wave is proud to expand its partnership with the band and look forward to creating a story with Joe, Jeremy and Compelling that will last forever and reintroduce the band to a new youth culture.”

As for the documentary, it wouldn’t be the first time their tale of success was shared. In 2021, the group was featured as part of an 8-Part music series titled This Is Pop on Netflix. Spanning several eras and genres in music, the show takes an honest (and impressively detailed look considering the runtime of each episode) at the artists, producers, writers and more who, in one way or another, changed the game forever.
Since their mainstream debut with 1991’s smash hit album “Cooleyhighharmony,” Boyz II Men has gone on to achieve international acclaim, now listed as the bestselling R&B group of all time with more than 60 million albums sold worldwide. Still actively touring, they recently headlined a sold-out, three-night run at the historic Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, marking their first time back after having been an opening act there at the early part of their career.
