Bishop Marvin Winans had a health scare during a church service in Toledo, Ohio last Wednesday, October 16. Video from the live stream of the service shows Winans, 66, standing before the congregation with a microphone in hand when he suddenly began to lose consciousness, droop forward and fall. The crowd gasped as attendees rushed to his aid.

Winans addressed the incident Saturday in a Facebook Live that was shared across his social media platforms. The Perfecting Faith Church pastor explained dehydration was the cause.

“I had an unexplained episode. The doctor thinks it might have been dehydration. So often we work ourselves too much and that seems to have been the problem,” he said, assuring supporters that there are no residual or long lasting effects on his health and he is overall in good health. “My heart is good, my vitals are good, and I am in good shape. I want you to know without any hyperbole, I am fine. If I wasn’t I’d tell you to pray.”

Winans also shared his gratitude for the overwhelming support he received in the days following the incident. “I appreciate all of the prayers and all of the support. It is wonderful to know that people care about you and they love you, and I appreciate the concern.”

There is still work to do, but I know God wants you to stay healthy so you can accomplish this!”

Bishop Winans’ health scare is an important reminder to prioritize health and well-being in the hustle and bustle of every day life.

Staying properly hydrated is essential to doing so.

Experts at the Mayo Clinic explain water plays a crucial role in numerous bodily functions. It regulates body temperature, lubricates joints, and helps transport nutrients and oxygen to cells. Additionally, hydration supports digestion and aids in the elimination of waste through urine and sweat. Even mild dehydration can lead to fatigue, headaches, and decreased cognitive function.

Individual needs can vary based on factors like age, weight, climate, and activity level, however, the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine determined that an adequate daily fluid intake for adult men is 15.5 cups and 11.5 cups a day for women.

Incorporating hydration into your daily routine can be straightforward. Keep a reusable water bottle handy, set reminders to drink water throughout the day, and choose water over sugary beverages. Also note that hydration doesn’t solely come from drinking water. Foods such high in water content contribute to overall fluid intake. For example, cucumbers, oranges, and watermelon are not only nutritious but also help you stay hydrated.

By prioritizing hydration, you can enhance your physical performance, boost your mood, and improve your overall health.
