Tia Mowry says she and her sister Tamera are no longer close, Tia is learning to be alone.
On September 20, ET dropped a clip filled with all the drama: tears, deep convos, family moments, lavish trips, dates, and yes, even some eye candy with half-dressed men—because why not? All are now part of the single mother of two’s new reality.
“It’s been about a year and a half since I got a divorce, and I’m slowly learning who I am,” Tia shares in the clip. “I came into this world with a twin, and right after that, I went into a 22-year relationship, so I have never been alone in my life. It has been quite a journey.”
Tia Mowry’s Next Act is giving us all the tea on handling life post-divorce. The series promises to show just how divorce and the changes impact her kids, her family dynamics, and most importantly—her sense of self.
In one particularly heart-wrenching moment, Tia gets real about co-parenting struggles: “One of the hardest things I’ve had to adapt to is dropping my kids off at their dad’s house. I’ve always wanted that family dynamic of a mom and dad in one household, and when you’re dropping your kids off, you actually see how that’s no longer the case.”
Her vulnerability continues as she shares the struggles of loneliness, particularly missing her close relationship with her twin sister, Tamera. “Now, being alone has been the most challenging part of my divorce, times like this when I feel and wish that my sister and I were so close, and I could, you know, pick up the phone and call her, but that’s just not where we are right now.”
‘The divorce made me mentally ill’: Tia describes how the divorce immediately impacted her.
The Game actress is candid about the mental toll, too. “If I’m being completely honest, the divorce made me mentally ill. Right after I signed the divorce papers, I had to go straight back to work. I didn’t have time to really process what was going on. I knew what was happening, but I didn’t get to fully absorb it.”
The show doesn’t shy away from addressing public speculation either. The child star even touches on that viral red carpet moment with Cory from March 2024. The two greeted each other at the Essence Women of Hollywood event, and their awkward interaction sparked comments.
“It was blown way out of proportion,” she says, keeping it all the way 100. “People are always trying to create stories in their head, and then they put them out there. Who does that?”
Tia’s new show is sure to hit home for many Black women—especially single moms and those navigating post-divorce life. According to Forbes, the divorce rate for Black couples is nearly double that of White couples, and the number of single, educated Black moms is on the rise. Tia’s journey is one that many of us can relate to.
Tia Mowry has never been one to hold back before, and with her newfound voice she’s certainly not starting now. Tia Mowry’s Next Act premieres on October 7, and it promises to be as heartfelt, emotional, and relatable as Tia herself.
