Presidential nominee and Madam Vice President Kamala Harris sparkled in a custom black sequin gown by LaQuan Smith, Saturday, at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s (CBCF) Phoenix Awards dinner. VP Harris glided to the stage to the sound of her Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority sisters’ “Skee-Wee” and Beyoncé’s “Freedom.” President Joe Biden introduced her as “Kamala Harris, for the people” as she appeared.

All eyes were on Harris as she reached the podium. The Howard University graduate looked stunning in a maxi-length gown, shimmering from top to bottom. The custom Smith piece featured eye-catching details, including a dramatic wide triangle neckline design and bold, exaggerated shoulder pads. Each detail added the right amount of flair.
Harris’ beauty look was just as fierce. Her hair was pressed to perfection, styled in her signature soft shoulder-length curls. Her makeup was naturally flawless with foundation and light gloss, allowing the sequined gown to be the center of attention.
Harris’ dress is a departure from her signature power pantsuit. But this isn’t the first time she’s worn the Black designer. She wore a gold Smith blouse to the Beyoncé Renaissance concert in 2023.
Smith proudly took to social media to share images from the CBCF dinner deeming her the “future president” in his caption.
“The Congressional Black Caucus has served as the conscience of the Congress and of our nation, and as a proud former CBC member, I know first-hand America relies on the leaders in this room, not only for a conscience, but for a vision,” she said.
Kamala Harris continues to dress to impress, show up, and show out along the campaign trail.
VP Harris’ CBCF appearance is coming off an impressive debate win against her opponent and former President Donald Trump. While Trump went on his usual ignorant tirade, Harris was strategic, calculated and clear. Harris reference the debate in her speech.
“We actually have a plan for healthcare, not just ‘concepts of a plan,’” she said.
Towards the end of her speech, she accepted the “baton” to carry the Democratic Party across the finish line. “Now the baton is in our hands,” she said. “I truly believe that America is ready to turn the page on the politics of division and hate, and to do it, our nation is counting on the leadership in this room.”
While Harris has to fight for every vote, a recent endorsement by Taylor Swift proves she is winning over new audiences with her policies and political swagger.
