The highly anticipated Honda Battle of the Bands (HBOB) is back, and fans have spoken. The event returns in 2025 with an all-new location, voting process and host, Nick Cannon. Read more about the latest updates and watch a special video announcement inside.
After a spirited online voting process, Hampton University and the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff have secured the final two spots to perform at the live event in 2025. The full lineup is a powerhouse of talent, featuring bands from six Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs):
Alabama A&M University – Marching Maroon and White Band
Alabama State University – Mighty Marching Hornets
Hampton University – The Marching Force
North Carolina A&T University – Blue and Gold Marching Machine
Southern University – Human Jukebox Marching Band
University of Arkansas Pine Bluff – Marching Musical Machine of the Mid-South
Honda continues its tradition of supporting HBCU music education programs by providing institutional grants to each of these schools, as well as covering travel expenses for the bands to attend the Invitational Showcase in Los Angeles. Moreover, all 52 bands that participated in the voting process will receive an HBOB Legacy Grant, further emphasizing Honda’s commitment to HBCU excellence.
Adding to the excitement, the 2025 HBOB will be hosted by none other than Nick Cannon, a multi-talented entertainer known for his love of HBCU culture. Cannon, who starred in the iconic film Drumline, will bring his passion and energy to the event, making it a night to remember.
This year’s event also marks the first-ever West Coast showcase for HBOB, featuring a new band selection process. The Honda Legacy Council initially selected North Carolina A&T University and Southern University, who then issued challenges to other HBCU bands, leading to the public voting phase.
In addition, Honda is partnering with the National College Resources Foundation to host the Black College Expo, offering students access to over $10 million in scholarships.
