[EXCLUSIVE] KRS-One, Doug E. Fresh React To The Death of Fatman Scoop

Fatman Scoop may no longer be here physically, but his contribution to the Hip-Hop culture lives within every fan, peer, and future MC who studies the greats to learn what it truly means to control the crowd. During a visit to Houston over the long Labor Day Weekend, KRS-One and Doug E. Fresh, both close friends and music peers of the late Hip-Hop pioneer, explained exactly what it was that made Fatman Scoop so special.

Doug E. Fresh explained why Scoop’s death, which had only been announced earlier that same day, was extra personal.

Scoop died after suffering a medical emergency at a show in Connecticut. On Friday night (August 30th) Scoop was rushed to the hospital after collapsing during a performance. The incident occurred at The Green and Gold Party summer concert at Town Center Park in Hamden, Connecticut. According to reports, CPR was administered on-site during the medical emergency before he was taken to the hospital. There is currently no update on his condition. Hamden Mayor Lauren Garrett has asked the public to “please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.”

Scoop’s passing comes just weeks after another larger than life music figure left us far too soon.

Southern rapper/producer BeatKing, also known as The Club God due in part to his hard-hitting beats and penchant for crafting twerk anthems dead on August 15th in his hometown of Houston, Texas. He was 39 years old.

On August 29th, Beatking was honored with a Celebration of Life in H-Town. Guest speakers included celebrated DJs and Hip Hop stars such as Bun B, who recalled his first recording experience with BeatKing and telling the large crowd that the late rapper was blessed to be able to live his dreams during his time on Earth.
