They defied the odds of distance to build a faith-filled and Christ-led relationship. Lyne and Lawrence Stevens were the subject of the September 4th episode of the Dear Future Wifey Podcast. The couple married each other only after 6 dates.
Lawrence is from New Jersey and Lyne is from London by way of Belgium. They met through TikTok. Lawrence told host Laterras R. Whitfield he found Lyne’s page while in the infancy of his spiritual journey. Lyne, a secular-turned-Gospel artist was using her TikTok page to expose the lyrics of secular music v.s. Gospel music. He became interested in her content as he was looking for more faith-based music.
Lawrence ended up capturing her attention by posting an Instagram story listening to one of her first songs that she made. The pair then shared their testimonies with one another during a FaceTime call. He said they began having frequent faith-based conversations about God. They built a friendship and then a relationship.
“I felt like just before your husband comes, counterfeits will be coming as well,” Lyne said. “There were many that were coming before. I felt like that was a sign that God was about to send me my person.”
Lyne said she was concerned at first when Lawrence told her he loved her two weeks in, but began to lean on God’s plan for her life which helped her relax. He made her his girlfriend after four months of communication. He knew two months in that he would propose to her in Paris. They both were dating with intention and believed God would reveal the path of their relationship because they were being intentional.
“The long distance was okay because we knew at some point there’s an end goal for this,” Lyne said.
“For me and for the both of us, it was about seeking God in the beginning,” Lawrence said.
Now, almost two years in, Lawrence and Lyne have a ministry focused on couples and how to get to marriage the Kingdom way. They said they had a vision of creating this resource during their courting season and they’re happy to talk, teach and instruct couples on courtship and the word of God.
