Danielle Fishel is thanking her fans for the outpouring of support she received after announcing her breast cancer diagnosis earlier this week.
The “Boy Meets World” actress made the initial revelation on Monday’s episode of her podcast “Pod Meets World.” She’s been diagnosed with high-grade ductal carcinoma in situ with microinvasion.

“In situ” means the cells are not malignant or cancerous, but they can sometimes become cancerous and spread. Fishel said the cancer was caught very early and was in stage 0. She confirmed she will have surgery to remove it along with follow-up treatment, but reassured fans she will be fine. She reiterated that in an Instagram video posted to her account on Tuesday (August 20).
“I wanted to do a quick video to say thank you so much from the bottom of my heart, and from my entire family, for the enormous outpouring of love and support and encouragement you have sent me since I announced my breast cancer diagnosis,” she said. “I absolutely only talked about it publicly because I know how unbelievably important it is, in my case, that I found my cancer when I did, and I found it very early.”
Fishel went on to say doctors only discovered the cancer early because she prioritizes mammograms. After skin cancer, beast cancer is the most common cancer among U.S. women (Hyperlink: https://www.breastcancer.org/facts-statistics#). Each year, breast cancer makes up about 30% of newly diagnosed cancers in women. She encouraged her fans to get mammograms too.
“I know how important that is now firsthand, so I wanted to pass along that message,” she said.

Since revealing her cancer diagnosis, Fishel said she’s had so many people tell her they have made mammogram appointments for themselves or others close to them. She also said her advice to prioritize health isn’t just for the ladies.
“Men, stay on top of your testing as well,” she said. “If you have those yearly exams that you’re supposed to be getting, go and get them. Nobody ever wants to get news, ‘Hey, your test results were abnormal.’ Nobody wants that.”
Fishel wrapped up her video message saying staying on top of medical tests doesn’t negate getting any unwanted results, but if you catch something early on, you’ll have a better chance at fighting it.
“I just really wanted to say thank you so much for the love and support,” she closed out the video. “I appreciate it more than you could ever know.”
