College students are one of the most vulnerable populations when it comes to mental health concerns and as the semester kicks off, we want to make sure everyone makes it through the semester successfully.
In college, self-care can be a difficult thing to prioritize. With newfound freedom from parents, intense academic obligations, and extracurricular activities, college students often forget to just breathe and take a moment for themselves.
However, It’s important to remember that self-care is not always done aesthetically and you don’t need hundreds of dollars to prioritize your wellbeing. Spending time alone, while separated from academic studies, allows students to recharge and bounce back better than ever.
Below are a few self-care tips for students entering the new semester.
Take A Walk
Try going for a walk around campus or finding a hiking trail. Exercise is important for both your mental and physical health.
Keep a Journal
Journaling is one of the best and easiest ways to connect with yourself. Make sure to write down your thoughts or even keep audio recordings of your feelings.
Clean Your Space
Dedicate cleaning days for your space. Less clutter helps to keep your mind clear and the task of cleaning can be therapeutic in itself.
Practice Breathing Exercises
Breathing exercises are a great way to relieve tension and don’t require a lot of time or space!
Schedule Social Outings
Maintaining your friendships and social life is a key element of mental health. Make an effort to spend time with friends outside of class!
College is a great experience and while everything can seem overwhelming at first, you will find your groove and your tribe!
