WASHINGTON, DC— U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle has resigned.

She had faced mounting pressure from both sides of the aisle to step down following the assassination attempt on former President Trump. Some of the people in Indiana who had called for her to resign include Indiana Republican Congressman Rudy Yakym and Congresswoman Victoria Spartz.

Cheatle testified before Congress on Monday in front of the House Oversight Committee. Lawmakers got angry with her and criticized her for not being transparent when she gave little to no details about the assassination attempt.

After the hearing, Kentucky Republican James Comer and Maryland Democrat Jamie Raskin released a joint letter calling on Cheatle to step down.

House Speaker Mike Johnson also announced a bipartisan task force will investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
