5 Mocktail Recipes to Try for Sober October

You’re probably familiar with Dry January, but have you heard of Sober October?

As with its winter counterpart, Sober October is a challenge to abstain from drinking for the entire month. Participating in this fall edition is a great way to assess drinking habits and detox the body ahead of the new year.

With the many fall festivities to look forward to this month, pressure to compromise can be difficult. Social drinking is normal and enjoyable, but you can stay the course with these tasty fall mocktails.

Mocktail Recipes for Sober October

1. Apple Butter Mocktail

What you’ll need:

1 oz of apple juice
2 tablespoon of apple butter
Dash of non-alcoholic orange bitters
Juice of half a lemon
Ginger beer (to taste)
1 tablespoon each of Coarse cinnamon sugar and simple syrup, for rimming
Thinly sliced apples and a cinnamon stick, to garnish

Directions: Dress your cocktail glasses by dipping the rim into simple syrup and coarse cinnamon sugar, then add ice. Shake together apple juice, apple butter, lemon juice and bitters then strain into your prepared cocktail glass. Top up with ginger beer and garnish with a cinnamon stick and apple slice on the rim to serve.

2. Rosemary Pear Mocktail

What you’ll need:

2 oz Pear juice
½ oz Rosemary simple syrup
½ oz Lemon juice
3 oz Sparkling water
Fresh pear slices or sprigs of thyme, to garnish

Directions: Fill glass halfway with ice, then pour in the pear juice, rosemary simple syrup, fresh squeezed lime juice and stir. Top with sparkling water then garnish with fresh pear slices and a sprig of thyme.

3. Blueberry Ginger Zinger Mocktail

What you’ll need:

⅓ oz ginger-infused simple syrup
1 cup of blueberries
4 oz lime juice
Club soda or seltzer
A twist of lime and blueberries for garnish
Ice

Directions: Blend blueberries and lime juice into a puree, then strain through a fine sieve to ensure the blend is smooth. Add to a large cocktail mixer with ginger syrup (to taste) and stir to combine. Pour into ice-filled glass, top with seltzer or club soda and garnish with a twist of lime and fresh blueberries.

4. Sparkling Blood Orange Mocktail

What you’ll need:

4 oz freshly squeezed blood orange juice
¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
½ tablespoon honey
½ oz lime juice
Club soda or seltzer
Blood orange slices for garnish
Ice

Directions: Shake together fresh blood orange juice, vanilla, honey, lime juice, and ice for about 30 seconds or until chilled. Strain into an ice-filled glass, top with club soda and garnish with slices of blood orange and a bamboo straw.

5. Autumn Harvest Sangria Mocktail

What you’ll need:

12 oz Lemonade
20 oz Apple cider
8 oz Orange juice
2 can Sparkling water
2 oz Maple syrup
2 Rosemary sprigs
3 Apples sliced
1 Orange sliced

Directions: In a tall pitcher, mix together apple cider, orange juice, and lemonade. Next, add thinly sliced apples and oranges, rosemary sprigs, and maple syrup. Gently stir ingredients together and chill in the refrigerator for at least two hours. Add sparkling water just before serving.
